Title: Latest `45 Book
Post by Brian Carpenter on 09/25/03 at 22:09:11
Has anyone read the most current general history of the Rebellion: "The `45; Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Untold Story of the Jacobite Rising" by Christopher Duffy?  I was wondering if it was worth purchasing, or merely a recapitualtion of previous stuff....

I find that modern books don't have the detail of period books for example James Rae's History of the Rebellion written in 1747.

Right now I'm reading The Flight of Bonnie Prince Charlie.....I think that's what it's called!!  It's upstairs and I'm at the computer.  Anyway, it's a short read, lots of good maps...almost too many photos of just "places".....isles, heather and water....but still good.  I'm not sure it's new but our piper got it for Christmas and it made it's way to my house before he has even read it!!  What a good lad he is!!  Slante'....Malcolm

Is there any other details on this book?
I could only find a "History of the Rebellion" written by a Peter Rae date 1718...  ???

Just curious.

That sounds fairly similar to Erik Linklaters The Prince in the Heather
