Title: Ogilvie's Order Book?
Post by Alex Good McCracken on 11/20/06 at 02:25:27
Has anyone read the published version of
Lord Ogilvie's Order Book? I think it covered
his regiment's/clan's operations through most
of the '45. It's a hard tome to find. Anyone been
through it?

Alex

Hi Alex,
I did have the opportunity to take a look at it several years ago. It was very much like reading the RO's for any modern regiment for the most part. That being said, it did show a group that seemed very efficiently run and displaying above average interest in discipline.

cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info.  One thing I've learned by
doing research for my American Revolution era
interests is that order books, account books, and
letter books are your friends, along with inspection
returns, if you can find them. Guess I'll have to track
down a copy of Ogilvie's now and give it a read.

BTW. It slipped my mind at the time, but congratulations
on the birth of your new child. One can not have too
many heirs to the throne. :)

Hi Guys
Ogilvie's Order Book is an appendix to a volume of the Journal of Society of Army Historical Research Vol II 1923.
Still available reasonably easily second hand in UK.
Abe Books currently has a copy listed in Canada.
Hope that helps
Neil
