These two sites have some interesting material on them. Look under Duke of Perth for a sketch of his sword;

Hi Ted,

Thanks for the link. The title shows it to have been
carried by James' brother John, the 4th duke. Wonder
if perhaps it was  passed down after James' death at
sea? Still, it's very elegant basket hilt, one that is clearly
influenced by the Stirling hilt makers, like Walter Allen.
I think it would be a nice one to have reproduced, yes?

Alex

It is a great site with some excellent documents. I've used it in the past a number of times especially for the declarations (one of which I had the privilege of "declaring" at the Merkat Cross in Edinburgh last year!)

On behalf of the Prince, thank you for your pledge of fealty Mr. MacWilliam.  I can see a land grant for you in the future!

cheers,
Chris

Your Highness!

Any piece of land that does not contain rocks and seaweed would be greatly appreciated.  As a Gunn who is now leading the Clan Chattan soldiery, 'tis gratifying to know that my lads and myself are appreciated to such an extent.  We trust that the upcoming clash with the Butcher at this place to be called Culloden 'twill see our fortunes made and your father's return to his rightful throne, AND you to your rightful place.  As one with second sight though, I fear a foreboding in this place of Drumoissie Moor, and the sweats come on me as I think on it.  I can only hope it is a bit of sour wine or piece of bad meat that brings on these shakes and quakes in my body.  And so I say, on to this place of Crown Point that we shall call Culloden.  Pax Aye!  And a glass raised to you, my Prince! God Bless King James!  Malcolm MacWilliam of Gunn, Clan Chattan

The picture of the gentleman above is not a representation of the Duke of Perth but of Lord Ogilvy Comander of the 2 Ogilvy Btn's or sometimes known as the Angus Regiment.
