Bonjour,

While surfing the internet for info on the French contingent during the 1745 rebellion, I came accross this:

http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/ilej/

Check the Gentleman's Magazine issues for the years 1745-46. You might find something interesting. I found the list of the French officers who surrendered at Inverness in vol. 16, Apr. 1746, p. 211.

Vive le Roy!

Thank you for the website sir. Just a cursory search brought up some interesting articles. I plan to go back when I have time to really "dig in". Grin

ILEJ is great. Sadly, I only have a sloooowwww dialup connection, so the time involved in downloading all those .gif files is immense (the individual scanned pages are stored as graphic images), so I've never been able to really dig into it.

Highly interesting reading though, if you either have a fast connection or are very patient.

Thanks for passing this along.  I had this link a few years ago but had lost (and forgotten) it when I changed computers.  The Gentleman's Magazine is particularly good.
Much appreciated!
