Is the gallery still working?

I can't get into the gallery.

Is it just me being blont?

Wim-Jaap,
I just checked and the gallery seems to be working fine.
Make sure you are using this address for the gallery: http://www.1745rising.org/gallery2/main.php
Make sure you check out the photos I loaded into my album (Re-enactment memories from the Vicar) yesterday.

Bill,

Thanks for sharing more memories. Congratulations with the handfastening of your son. They are a beautyful couple, and the Highland clothes, that lovely dress, the piping and the swords etc. makes the seremony look like a very memorable one.

Cheers,
Henrik

Henrik and Wim-Jaap,
Thanks for the favorable reviews of the new photos in my album.  The 18th century wheelchair's maiden voyage at the Fort Loudon re-enactment event in May was a big hit with everyone.  I truly felt more in tune with the time I was portraying sitting in it.
And just for the record, Wim-Jaap (and just in case the father of the young lady to whom my son Aaron is now betrothed reads this thread!), the handfasting ceremony was historically a betrothal or engagement ceremony, not a wedding.  Our son and his sweetheart plan to both graduate from college before they wed, so that is at least 4 years down the road.  We love her like a daughter already and are looking forward to having her officially become a member of our family when that does happen.  You are correct that they do make a beautiful couple, Henrik!  And they met through our involvement in re-enacting.  What makes it even better is her mother and father and my wife and I have become best of friends since our first formal introduction just one year ago this month.

@Vicar:

I can understand you were in tune with the time, it really fits in!
That is what I call re-enactment, to even go so far as to make a historical correct wheelchair, so no-one can say: they didn't have that.

It's real nice to see you enjoying re-enactment, without being placed outside of the daily routine, what happens in real life too often.
My dad is in a wheelchair and I can't count the times he was treated as a retard.
We had much fun in a restaurant, where one waiter kept on treating him as a retard, despite of the fact we told him that he was parralysed and not retarded.
So in the end, my dad started to act like a retard, because he was so pissed off.
So he started hitting his soup, everything was covered in soup and started shouting.
When the manager came, we explained the whole situation, he apologized, had the waiter apologize and we had a lovely dinner afterwards, with the best service we ever had!
This shows how narrow minded some people can be.

I think you do a beautiful job for all people with a disabillity, by showing everyone, that re-enactment is for everyone!

Hats off for the Vicar!

Wim-Jaap,
I can honestly say that I have never had the misfortune to be treated as your father was by that waiter, but I have had my eyes opened over the past three years I have spent in a wheelchair to the challenges and inconveniences of living in a world set up by and for able-bodied people with a body that is no longer able to self-propell.  One of the things I hope to do once I have earned my Master of Arts in Professional Counseling (hopefully in 3 1/2 years) and have established a private practice as a rehabilitative counselor for the disabled is to become heavily involved in advocacy for the disabled.
I can also honestly and very gratefully say that my very large and wonderful re-enactment family has been more than supportive and encouraging of my continued involvement in re-enactment events.  From Clann of the Wolf NY Sept Chief Charlie Fuller having me piped in and Clann of the Wolf Cadet (now Chief) Missy Clark presenting me with a hand-made medal of courage at my first re-enactment event after my spinal cord injury, to Chris Timm who asked me to consider taking on the role of chaplain to the Army of King James (hence the new personnae as Vicar Wm. "Gray Beard" Abernethy), to
others who have been very generous in their kind words of praise for what I have been able to do in changing roles from a Highland warrior to a Highland vicar, I have been blessed immeasurably by those with whom I am privileged to share my addiction for historical re-enactment.  Best people on the face of the earth in my book!  Thanks for joining in with this fine group of people and making me feel not only welcome but a useful part of the re-enacting community.
I hope we get a chance to share an event together sometime, somewhere.  I will have some of the finest Islay single malt with which to toast your health!
