This looks interesting. It's configured like some 18th c. sporrans:

That's right, Daniel!

I'll see if it's possible to wear it with either my boxpleated kilt or with the plaid. In any case I hope I'll get more pictures taken and share it here.
I'm curious to see how big it is etc. I'll tell you what I think of it once it gets here.

I've just had a bit of a dig around, assuming it's a British Patent then it would have to be after 1875 as that is when the Patent Office started to register designs as well as patents. I couldn't find the patent for this, but then it is really hard work, and I would guess they were tyrying to patent the clasp.
Lots of things in Britain have Patent Pending or Patent Applied For on them, this was to try and stop other manufacturers from copying what ever was being patented. It wasn't unusual to put some thing like that on an item and never to actually apply.

It's an interesting little purse. I'd guess it's used for carrying change suspended from a belt.
It seems too small to work as a sporran for a grown man, but it would work quite well for a lad.
I can only speculate what it has been used for and if it's been used with a kilt. With my kilt (which reaches me to my lower ribs) it will hang too high to be working well as a sporran. If suspended from a belt worn at the waist the length of the straps would be more pratcical.
The desing of the clasp is a very practical one rather than decorative and works well. There is a small pocket on the front of it which can hold either a small napkin or paper.

As to when it was made, I have no idea.
