Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am undertaking to begin the role of a Factor, as can be seen in the thread "Men's rolls/Rolls of Family Retainers."  I am doing much research into the Trade, Commerce, Communication, Banking and Legal process of the time, and the types of papers a man would carry with him.  I have found and made reproduction Bonds, Summons, warrants, Power of Attorney and Bills of exchange, lading, sale, etc.  I have also learned how to write period checks and done research on the types of receipts that existed and were in use.  (there's a lot of stuff here, and I can make up and send out a packet of PDFs for those who are interested in them. please contact me by Email at Ettiendubois@gmail.com for that.) However, I have not found much about some other things I have heard about concerning Personal Papers.
These include Letters of Introduction (for those of the higher classes), Letters of Commendation (Like a modern Letter of recommendation addressed to anyone it may be presented to), Letters of Good Credit (similar to above, I believe, but in reference to one's good standing with a merchant or bank. useful for a person such as myself).  also, I have not been able to find out what papers would have been routinely carried to Identify yourself, should your Identity be called into question.
If anyone has any advise on how they were written, or where a transcript of one could be be found, or what the Identity papers were, I would be greatly indebted.
             Your Humble Etc,
              Steve McGrath
